Are Trades Council meetings open to everyone?

No. Meetings are restricted to all members of trades unions or those wishing to join a trades union.

How can I contribute or influence the work of the Trades Council?

As a representative of an affiliated trades union, you will possess voting rights and can take an active part in our work.

Is affiliation free?

No. Each affiliated trades union pays a small annual fee, based on their branch membership. The fee for 2005 is 10p per member. Affiliation fees cover the running costs of the Trades Council.

Do Trades Councils have connections to political parties? 

No, they are part of the TUC (Trades Union Congress) which is independent of all political parties, although we do try and influence the decisions that political parties may make.
