Political Sub-Committee

 

Ewa Jasiewicz has accepted our invitation to speak at our meeting on 18th January 2008; she is a human rights activist and journalist based in London. Ewa spent 9 months living in occupied Iraq working with the Iraqi oil workers union. She is a member of the NUJ and Unite unions and worked for Unite as an Organiser for the TGWU - in the Northwest.

 

At a Labour & Trade Union Special Meeting held on 14th September 2007 it was unanimously agreed to form a Political Sub-Committee which would meet bi-monthly to pursue the following:

 OBJECTIVES

  • To improve generally the economic and social conditions of working people, including seeking improvements to the social services, public education, housing and health.
  • To help promote suitable cultural, educational, social and sports facilities for all working people.
  • To promote and support delegates ambitions within the labour movement.
  • To encourage membership of a suitable Trade Union and the Labour party.
  • Election of officers will be observed annually at the annual general meeting.
  • Officers may announce emergency meetings.
  • No affiliate funds shall be used for political purposes.

 STANDING ORDERS

  • Meetings will take place bi- monthly, starting at 7pm and ending at 8pm,
  • Meeting can be extended by 15minutes to conclude business by agreement of delegates.
  • The meeting will need 5 delegates including the officers to proceed.
  • A record of attendance will be recorded at each meeting.
  • The chairman shall deciding be allowed the deciding vote in the event of a tie.
  • Attendance will be by invitation only.
  • Delegate will be trade union members or committed to joining a trade union.
  • A report of activity shall be submitted to the Trades Council annually
